Effects and productive performance of urban agriculture on collective and environmental health in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Abstract Urban agriculture may help promote key indicators, such as improvement of environmental health and food security reduction social inequality. The present article aims to understand the current situation urban in city Rio de Janeiro by focusing on Hortas Cariocas Program (HCP). To this end, two approaches were adopted. first one was qualitative based a descriptive exploratory method that used survey analyze impacts caused program communities involved. second quantitative data envelopment analysis (DEA), which assess program’s productive performance from 2007 2019. showed peaks, 2012 with 80.21% other 2016 100.00% score. behavior annual scores can be explained increases number people who got directly involved (number producers) occupied area seedbeds), they reflect socio-environmental character HCP.
